Our Executive Director provides expertise and oversees the overall shelter operations including hiring and development of shelter staff.
The Executive Director assists the Board of Directors in the development of HSJC policies and procedures to be implemented by the Shelter Staff and supported by the Executive Director and Board.
The Executive Director maintains a commitment to the HSJC philosophies and polices in the performance of his/her duties.
This position reports to the President of the Board of Directors and has ultimate responsibility to the full Board of Directors.
The mission of the Humane Society of Jefferson County is to care for the lost, homeless and abused animals of Jefferson County, help place them in forever homes, and work to inspire kinder and more humane communities.

This is an in-person position, with weekend hours as needed.
Responsibilities include but aren't limited to:
Overall Shelter Operations Develop and implement the annual budget and report.
Handle the daily receipts, payroll, accounts payables, renewal of licenses, permits and non-stock reports.
Oversee the Shelter's human resources activities and bring important employee/HR issues to the Personnel Committee, when appropriate.
Work with the Shelter staff to develop on-going Needs List for basic facility maintenance.
Actively mentor and coach direct reports, including regular performance appraisals.
Meet regularly with the Shelter Manager and Community Outreach/Volunteer Coordinator to discuss goals, objectives and provide support.
Meet with the Shelter staff to discuss shelter or Board issues, policies and procedures.
Work with our financial advisor and the Board on any issues related to estates and/or our investments.
Negotiate prices with vendors to protect financial resources.
Donor Development and Public Relations Develop personal relationships with potential donors and maintain positive relationships with existing donors.
Develop, present and implement the annual Fundraising and Public Relations plans including both short- and long-term goals.
Provide expertise and support to HSJC Primary Fundraising events, e.
g.
Fur Ball, FF5K, etc.
Research new successful fundraising events with other non-profit organizations.
Create, strengthen, and improve relationships with municipalities.
Travel throughout the region and sometimes statewide to meet with potential funding sources, donors and other stakeholders, or to attend trainings and seminars.
Educate through public speaking opportunities.
Improve public perception of HSJC by providing a positive image in the community.
Seize available grant money.
Provide single point of contact for media.
Send personal Thank-you cards/letters for donations, as appropriate.
Board/Executive Director Development Maintain honest, open, collaborative relationship with the Board of Directors.
Work with the Board President to determine each month's Board agenda and email it along with all the monthly financials, animal numbers and any special information of interest to the Board.
Attend and participate in monthly board meetings including a monthly report of Staff and Executive actives.
Actively participate on board committees.
Coordinate board educational meetings including fundraising training, animal health issues, etc.
Qualifications:
Secondary education in a related field or commensurate work experience.
Experience in the animal welfare and not-for-profit areas.
Ability to communicate and develop large donor relationships.
Excellent oral and written skills.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
Previous experience working with a Board of Directors is recommended but not required.
Ability and willingness to implement and ensure compliance to all HSJC policies and procedures.
Ability to work with diverse groups of people in a professional and friendly manner including shelter staff, volunteers, community/civic organizations and officials, customers, Board of Directors, donors, vendors and the public.
Ability to cope with the emotional demands of the position when dealing with an abusive person and/or animal abuse/neglect situation.
Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends when required.
Ability and willingness to meet physical demands such as lifting and moving animals and cages, carrying heavy loads and restraining active animals.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Excellent critical thinking/analytical skills and ability.
Ability to manage multiple projects through successful completion within set timelines.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Valid Wisconsin driver's license.
Demonstrated computer and software skills required; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Donor and Shelter Database experience helpful.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
