Vehicle Description 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass S Holiday Coupe with 442 Options.
I sold this car to a repeat customer.
He is great about making improvements such as finding leaks, sorting electric issues, etc.
I took it back in trade for the El Camino he has been searching for.
I was happy to get it back! As you may know, without a Build Sheet, Broadcast Card or original Purchase Documents, it is difficult to prove that a 1972 Cutlass is a true 442.
In 72, the 442 equipment came as options.
There was no specific model, no special VIN indication and no indication on the Body Tag.
So you have to search for visual clues and the equipment that would be found as 442 options.
I believe this car has the visual clues and equipment to say that it was equipped with 442 options.
The sway bars and control arms are modern Hotchkiss versions, so that clue has to be ignored.
The emblems are in place.
This car has a W25 OAI hood, but it may have been added later in life.
The W35 Rear Deck Spoiler is in place.
The white stripes are painted on and buried beneath the clear coat.
This car has black plastic inner fenders, dual Sport Mirrors, trumpet exhaust tips and the rear bumper has the 442 cut-outs.
The interior has white buckets seats, rear seat, door panels and headliner.
The carpet and seat belts are black.
The black center console contains the shifter.
The steering column does not have a shifter nub.
It is a tilt column.
The original Rocket 350 is absent.
In its place is a 1970 455 Rocket V8 with E heads.
It has an Edelbrock intake manifold and Carter carburetor.
The exhaust begins with headers and is true duals through free-flowing mufflers.
The original Turbo 350 transmission is still in place.
I am of the opinion that the entire rear axle was changed, as it now has a 3.
42 gear ratio with Anti-Spin differential.
The speedometer reads 80 when you are doing 60, so this car probably had a 2.
56 gear when it was new.
With the 235/60/15 BFG Radial TAs on the new Super Stock wheels, you gain back some of the gear ratio change.
This is a factory Air Conditioned car.
The components were removed during the engine swap and have been in a box in the trunk ever since.
Because it is an AC car, it came from the factory with Soft Ray tinted glass.
Of course this car had power steering and brakes.
The front brakes were disc from the factory.
It also has auxiliary gauges to monitor performance and a 90's vintage AM/FM/Cassette with Amp and good speakers to play your favorite tunes.
This trunk floor and floors have been patched.
The frame is solid.
Due to the patches, I went around the car with a refrigerator magnet.
The front fenders, doors, rocker panels provided great adhesion.
The quarter panels down low didn't.
Yet I see no filler or repairs from underneath.
Maybe there was enough of a finishing coat to prevent the magnet from sticking.
There are no outward signs of filler, rust or cracks.
There are a few small areas that suggest poor paint adhesion, but you need to look close.
The Sequoia Green paint looks amazing in the sunlight.
The combination of the great looking paint, the shiny wheels and the body moldings makes this car sparkle in the sun.
It is quite stunning, especially with the white stripes, the hood and the spoiler accenting the appearance of the Cutlass S fastback body.
We found the horn to not be working.
Obviously the AC isn't functional.
Everything else works properly.
The doors lock with the key.
The trunk contains a proper spare and jacking equipment.
You are going to love the driving experience.
The 455 had gobs or torque.
The 3.
42 gears offer great response and crisp shifting.
Yet you aren't spinning the engine too much at highway speeds.
I truly enjoyed my test drive.
This car is going to provide an impressive visual experience for you and the onlookers.
As a lover of Oldsmobiles, it was great to be able to get one back.
It came back to me even better than when it left.
I search far and wide for good Oldsmobiles and often regret seeing one leave.
When this one came back, it was like seeing a long lost friend.
If you love these cars like I do, you know how significant and impressive they are.
