Vehicle Description If you are a fan of all thing Oldsmobile, you know how rare and desirable the Jetstar I truly is.
They were only made in 1964 and65.
They are basically a Starfire, but without all the glitz and flash.
They were meant to be a luxury car, but with a more competitive price point.
In the end, the strategy did not work and the choice was made to discontinue the model.
I have been on the hunt for years and years to find a nice one.
I kept my eyes open and stumbled upon this car not more than 100 miles away.
I consider myself to be extremely fortunate and am proud to own this gem.
I love this car.
This car was built at the South Gate, California plant.
It was one of 16,084 Sport Coupes built in 1964.
It was sold by Century Oldsmobile of Van Nuys, CA to a man from Bakersfield.
This car is well equipped and comes with a facsimile of the Window Label that was affixed to the car when it was sold new.
It also has the original Warranty Booklet containing the Protect-O-Plate, an Owner's Manual, promotional posters from 1964 and a file of repair receipts from the restoration.
The car has been owned by the same man for the past 28 years.
He committed to restoring the car immediately in 1994 and began to gather new and gently used parts to improve his car.
He did it the old-fashioned way, without the internet.
He went to swap meets, checked ads in magazines such as Hemmings Motor News and scrounged in collections and salvage yards.
He succeeded in discovering the parts necessary to make this a very complete, well optioned and glorious car.
The restoration began with a thorough and complete mechanical overhaul of the car.
From talking with him and from sifting through the stack of receipts, it appears that nothing was left untouched.
The important components such as the powertrain, brakes, cooling, air conditioning, fuel, ignition and wiring were all addressed and the receipts will support this.
The engine starts, idles and runs strong.
There is no smoke or lifter noise.
The transmission shifts properly and smoothly.
The car drives and handles well.
It stops without pulling.
He drove the car almost 40,000 miles during his ownership and wanted it to perform well and without issues.
I believe it will continue to do so for many, many more miles.
The Jetstar I's came with the same Sky Rocket 394 as in the Starfires.
These engines were rated at 345 HP and probably produced more than that.
They have strong torque.
The compression ratio is 10.
5:
1, so Premium Fuel must be used.
The three speed automatic is called the Rotomatic.
This particular car has a very early Hurst Dual-gate shifter installed.
It has the proper shift pattern and detents as well as the key.
This is a very rare and sought after shifter that was introduced in 1963.
The rear axle gearing is 3.
42:
1 and this car has Anti-Spin differential for positive traction.
This is a great gear for spirited driving, yet allows for reasonably good fuel economy.
It also allows for towing or driving in hilly terrain.
This car has power steering and brakes.
The entire braking system has been overhauled and maintained.
The steering box was rebuilt and all components of the front end have been replaced.
The front end has been properly aligned.
The Air Conditioning System has been completely refurbished, yet contains the original hoses.
It looks like it did when it was new.
The R12 Freon will leak out over time and the owner chose to not replenish it.
He felt the hoses might need to be replaced in order to keep the Freon from leaking and he didn't want to sacrifice the originality.
We both love vent windows! This car had all new Aluminized exhaust.
It was properly chambered and has the correct mufflers and resonators.
The Jetstar I's could be nicely equipped.
This car has heavy duty cooling, Guidematic headlamp control, tilt steering, Soft Ray glass, Custom Deluxe Steering wheel, AM-FM pushbutton radio, Rear reverb speaker, clock, map light, trunk light, underhood light, glovebox light, visor mirror, power trunk release, center console, deluxe seat belts, power driver's seat, bucket seats, tachometer, rubber floor mats and trunk mat.
The upholstery is White Leather.
The rest of the interior is Red.
The exterior has bright mouldings, fuel door guard, door edge guards, back-up lights and cornering lights.
The Holiday Red paint is adorned with a white paint accent stripe.
The wheels are adorned with the rare and desirable Custom Sport Aluminum Wheel covers.
The combination of these wheels and the correct appearing and correct size tires is amazing.
This car is highly detailed and in show condition.
The chrome, trim and paint is exceptional.
The interior is awesome.
In the past year, a new battery and a new set of Coker bias ply appearing radial tires were installed.
This is an exceptional car.
It is rare and desirable and well equipped.
I love it and believe that you will as well.
