Vehicle Description This car was purchased from an Estate.
Because of that, there is no history to share.
The best I can do is share what I learned from the Family and from my observations, assessments and theories.
The man who passed was a car guy.
He enjoyed finding cars, improving them and driving them.
His real interest revolved around the mechanics and making his car safe and reliable drivers.
He was a lover of BIG Classic Oldmobiles, especially Convertibles.
From the title, it appears that he had owned this car for six years.
From the parts in the trunk and observation, I can see that he installed a new dual exhaust system, brakes, and tires and performed an ignition tune-up.
The fuse panel and quite a bit of the wiring has been replaced.
The engine bay wiring was tidied up with looms.
I have no idea where this car lived for the first 50 years.
I do know that it was built in Lansing, MI.
I suspect if was from the South for two reasons.
First, it is a Convertible with Air Conditioning and Soft-Ray tinted glass.
If we see a Northern car that is a Convertible, it seldom has Air Conditioning.
Mostly due to cost.
But the Convertible buyers from the South are always asking me if it has Air Conditioning due to the humidity.
Second, the underside of this car if perfectly solid.
There is no rust, rot or repairs to the floors and frame.
The suspension suggests that the car has not been driven on salted roads.
For those two reasons, I believe this car came from the Southern States.
The odometer reads 45214 miles.
The WI title indicates the car is EXEMPT from odometer disclosure, yet it states that the mileage is ACTUAL.
This puzzles me.
In my mind, that tells me the car came from a State where the odometer reading was not EXEMPT and the mileage had been recorded.
Unfortunately, I have no additional information about the mileage on this car.
It is being sold as EXEMPT from odometer disclosure.
At the same time, when I evaluate the condition of the trunk, the engine bay and the upholstery, it is quite easy for me to believe that mileage could indeed be ACTUAL.
None of the above have been restored.
The trunk floor is perfect.
The original mat is gone, but there has never been water on the floor, so there is no surface rust.
The original coating is present and the floor is well preserved.
The engine bay is tidy, not showing corrosion, and not indicating that the engine has been out of the car.
The upholstery appears to be original.
I see no signs that it was replaced.
The seat covers are in great condition.
The dash is very nice with only one small crack on the far left.
The dash does not indicate a lot of use, as there are no signs of wear, damage or degradation.
The body of this car is solid.
I do not see signs of repair or damage.
The paint is probably 10-20 years old.
It is not a show quality finish, yet is looks great from ten feet.
There are no bubbles, cracks or signs of body filler.
There are only a few small chips that were touched up.
The chrome and stainless are in great condition.
The rear bumpers of this era are prone to rust, yet this one is in great condition.
The front bumper is as well.
There are only a few small pits on the pot metal of the bezels.
This is another area of concern on the cars of this era.
The Target Red paint color matches the Body Tag.
The black vinyl bench seat interior and black top do as well.
The Convertible top is likely a replacement.
It is about as close to perfect as can be.
The rear window is plastic and it is too nice to be the original.
The top opens and closes hydraulically and the system works well.
The 425 cubic inch Super Rocket V8 starts, idles and runs great.
This engine came from the factory with 10.
25:
1 compression, so Premium Fuel is recommended.
It produces well over 300HP and almost 500 foot pounds of torque.
This was quite impressive in the mid-60's.
Thankfully, fuel prices were not an issue.
The engine is backed by the durable Turbo 400 Hydramatic transmission.
The rear axle contains an open differential with 2.
93:
1 gear ratio.
This is a true highway cruiser that will easily roll at over 100 mph.
Power Steering and Brakes were standard features.
This car is also equipped with full wheel covers, convertible boot, dual outside mirrors, courtesy lighting, pushbutton AM radio and rear speaker.
A modern AM/FM/CD stereo with remote control has been installed.
Most of the features work properly.
The horn doesn't blow, the heater and A/C don't work, nor does the park brake.
This is a very nice car that is ready to enjoy.
I believe it lived a good life and it has much more left to offer.
